Father’s Day is a time to celebrate the wisdom, strength, and love that dads bring into our lives. This year, we’re excited to sit down with loyal Brooks athlete, Steve Dinneen. Over the last 15 years as a Brooks Athlete, we have watched Steve’s family grow, and witnessed him transform into the Father he is today. Steve shares his insights on fatherhood, the lessons he’s learned along the way, and what being a dad truly means to him. Join us as we explore the joys, challenges, and heartwarming moments that define fatherhood in this special interview.
What does being a Dad mean to you?
“I come from a big loving family who have always looked out for & supported each other. A lot of my best moments in life have been around my family. To be a Dad now is something so important and special to me and I feel very lucky to be one. The favourite parts of my week are usually around being with my children who mean the world to me. They help keep me young, happy & full of life!”
Where did your passion for running/fitness begin?
“My interest in fitness started through my brothers who loved playing sport growing up like football, tennis & cricket when I was in primary school. With 6 boys in my family & me being the second youngest, my initial passion for running probably came from running away from them! I learnt to get quick, otherwise caught & sore as well. My passion to train and race came in high school thanks to one of my teachers who coached me.”
Does your family get involved in running/fitness like you?
“Just one of my brothers has done some running with me over the years. My wife started running around 1 year after our first child was born. She does lots of Parkruns and some of the fun runs like Run4thekids, Great Ocean Road Festival & Melbourne marathon. My kids will come down often to watch me coach my squad and to the odd race.”
What is your favourite memory with your family?
“Travelling on holidays where it is just us and all the time in the world to hang out. Having conversations, playing games like Uno, wrestles with the kids, dancing & singing!”
Using 3 words, how would your family describe you?
“Kids – fun, cheeky, loving (Mel might add in stubborn/driven – depending if I am in the good or bad books 😂)”
